Hey Dad, Going Out?

I think this is a total Dad thing, typically I think Moms are better and making sure they are prepared to go out and have everything they would possibly need before leaving the house.  On Saturday, March 16, 2019, I agreed to meet my brother with my nieces at the beach and in my rush, I made the HUGE mistake of forgetting the essential things to take when going to the beach and really regretted it. I thought that the twins would just hang back in the sand and that the water would be too cold so I probably would be ok? NOT!  When I was turned around to take a phone call, they both jumped right in with all of their clothes on and were drenched.  I was caught in a bad spot with nothing to help keep them warm and dry on a chilly beach day.  To make matters worse, one of the twins was a little gassy and was complaining that he thinks he may have boo-booed in his underwear.  Lucky for me I had a towel in the car, after the beach we went to the public restroom and I did my best to squeeze out the ocean water and smack out the sand and dried them off.  We drove straight home, which took 45 minutes with the terrible traffic and I had both boys take a shower as soon as we arrived.

So, I see myself coming back to this list in the future and updating it, but these are the items that I wish I had, 1 item at least for each child.

  • Flip Flops
  • Shoes
  • Socks
  • Underwear
  • Change of pants and shorts
  • Towel
  • Extra Jacket
  • Extra shirt
  • Snacks (nuts, fruit, & chips unless you’re also tempted to eat)
  • Bottled water
  • Baseball cap
  • Sunscreen lotion
  • Plastic bag/bag for dirty and soiled clothes

So there you go, a little guide for the next time you have to take the littler ones out so that you aren’t caught in a bad spot as I put myself in.
